Kersten Meier - Puzzle Inventor

*23.02.1954 Celle, +03.04.2001 Düsseldorf

In 2007 I bought the Magic Crystal from Aleh Hladzilin. A fascinating puzzle, which existed only as a custom build by him at this time (as far as I know). I received this puzzle together with a small solution guide based originally developed by Kersten Meier. This guide also listed Kersten's old address in Düsseldorf. So I realised, that this guy, who was known to me before only from the name "Halpern-Meier-Pyramid", was living in my own town!

I started some researches, but - well - Meier is not really a rare name in Germany. Not the best starting point. But finally I found an conceptual art project dealing with cubic styles and Kersten had been in contact with them. So I finally got an actual phone number.

Sadly, Kersten had left us already in 2001. But I met his widow, Iris, and we talked about his life and obsessions. She still had some boxes with correspondance and also originals of solution guides. As she had no further use for them, she kindly handed them over to me.

Meanwhile already se veral years have gone by, but now I will start to scan and publish the interesting documents step by step.

Kersten was not only very gifted in mathematical issues, he also was an excellent swimmer and won the bronze medal with the 1972 German swimmer team in "Men's 4 × 100 metres Freestyle Relay" and 1975 vice world champion in" Men's 4 × 100 metres Freestyle". Additionally he was a very good player of the Japanese Go game.
