An interesting mechanism which combines elements of a 2x2x2 cube and a 2x2x4 cuboid.
Alternate columns are connected with each other and can be shifted upwards or downwards relative to their neighbours. Depending on the move, either only the pieces of center row (which is formed by the shift) can be moved or - if shifted in the opposite direction - all resulting four layers can be turned individually. In this state also any 90° and 180° turns as with a common 2x2x2 cube are possible.

Very well working mechanism. It is advised to order this puzzle in the NON-polished version.
Otherwise the core becomes too weak and will break.
