Tony Fisher's Golden Cube is one of the most outstanding puzzles at all. All of its pieces have a unique shape, which causes that there is only one solution. This allows to use only one colour for the surfaces, which makes the Golden Cube more difficult than with multiple colours, because it is extremely difficult to keep the orientation of the puzzle. The base mechanism of the Golden Cube is a Skewb. But it is a real challenge even to work out, which pieces are the corners and which are the centers. As a very special trick, the puzzle in its solved state has to be twisted first about one half of a normal twist to bring it into a situation, where it can be turned around four all axes.
Tony Fisher made around 30 copies of the puzzle.
In 2006 he also created one Golden Cube sprayed completely with golden colour, but was not satisfied with the result, because the inner surfaces of the pieces got scratches very fast.
In 2007 it was announced, that the Golden Cube will be factory made by Uwe Meffert. This cheap, smaller version is expected to be released before end of 2008.
