Dürer's Solid

Puzzle Details

A tiny but very nice 2x2x2 modification made by Matt Davis inspired by Albrecht Dürer's picture "Melencolia I".

Interesting is, that the 2x2x2 cuts in this puzzle are not completely symmetrical to the puzzle shape. Picture (5) shows, where the extensions/cuts come together: The center cross on of the faces is of the same height, means, the inner corners of all pieces always fit together in one point independently from the actual puzzle shape.

Presented at the DCD2009, it appeared, that the puzzle is not a trivial one, as many puzzlers, who are without any doubt able to solve a 2x2x2 had a lot of problems with this item, although all pieces are uniquely stickered. Dürer's Solid is one of the most interesting 2x2x2 mod ever seen. The puzzle turns incredibly perfect, there's no need to lube it at all. The only issue are the not really exact stickers, but this is a trivial issue as they can be replaced easily of course.

Weight: 63g
Size: Height (when set on one of the pink triangles as on image (1)): 6.2cm;
edge lengths of the pentagons: two long edges 4.1cm, all three short edges: 2.3cm
